Conesus Lake in Winter
Conesus Lake, NY
Conesus Lake is one of the 11, yes 11, not 10, Finger Lakes located in Upstate NY. It is eight miles long with a maximum width of one mile. This lake is 66 feet deep although a little more than 90% of it is only about 45 feet deep.
Although the lake is a wonderful place to be in summer, I can also tell you it has another side that it shows in winter. Most winters now the lake freezes making it conducive to ice fishing, skating, and cross country skiing. It's calm and peaceful with all the docks and hoists piled up on folks' lawns.
I capture many of its stunning winter sunrises (a perk to living on the Westside) and most are quite breathtaking. It would be a shame to think of this place as only a summer hangout when it has so much to offer when the temps dip below 30 degrees.
